Batman

INT. BATCAVE

The Batcave is dark and filed with advanced technology including huge monitors; which, Bruce Wayne stands in-front of.

On the monitor, The Penguin is holding a GCPD officer with a gun to his head.

PENGUIN
Batman, you hide away like a coward in the
dark. I will tell you exactly where I am. Come to
my club, The Iceberg Lounge, and face me. If you don't
get here soon, expect to see pig brains all over the VIP
lounge.

The transmission ends.

Alfred, the butler, walks up behind Bruce.

Alfred
Obviously, he is setting a trap for you sir.

Bruce
He thinks he has the upper hand. That's what
puts him in a disadvantage.

ALFRED
Sir, please be careful. Your bravado will
be the end of you one day. I don't want tonight
to be the night I have been dreading for so long.

BRUCE
Relax, old man. It's The Penguin.

Bruce presses a button on a complex-looking panel.

A rectangular booth rises out of the floor.

The front of the box slides back into the floor to reveal the batsuit.

Bruce walks into the box and the door rises back up to close.

ALFRED
Also, sir, it's tax season so should I just
get that done for you or would you like to
handle it?

The door opens. Now, Bruce is Batman.

BATMAN
(in a deeper voice)
You handle it. I can't stand seeing them take
my money the way they do. I use that to
create jobs.

The incredibly expensive looking Batmobile drops from the ceiling on a platform hanging by wires.

ALFRED
Of course, sir. I'll have it taken care of.

Batman leaps into the Batmobile.

The engine roars.

The floor rotates his car to face the waterfall-hidden exit.

INT. BATMOBILE

Batman guns the accelerator.

The car screams through the waterfall.

ZZZWAP! (or crash sound)

EXT. STREET OUTSIDE OF BATCAVE - NIGHT

The Batmobile has crashed into a Prius and both cars have stopped.

The Prius has a smashed back passenger side and has spun around.

A man in his mid-thirties steps out of the car ranting and appears to not be hurt.

ANGRY MAN
Are you kidding me? Look at my freaking car!

Batman gets out of his vehicle.

The angry man walks toward the Batmobile.

BATMAN
That was my fault. I didn't see you coming.

ANGRY MAN
Yeah, no duh it was your fault! Did you just
drive out of a freaking waterfall?

BATMAN
(evasively)
No. I was turning on to the road from the side and
wasn't paying attention.

ANGRY MAN
Your car is covered in water?

BATMAN
I just had it washed.

The angry man pulls out his cell phone.

BATMAN
What are you doing?

ANGRY MAN
(with the phone to his ear)
I'm calling the cops.

BATMAN
Wait, I can pay for the damages. Just give me
your info.

Angry man puts his phone back in his pocket.

ANGRY MAN
Okay. We should exchange information.

BATMAN
Exchange? I've really got to be going. The Penguin is
holding a police officer hostage as we speak, and I
have a feeling that he is planning something much bigger.

ANGRY MAN
Penguin? You have to leave the scene of an accident
to go stop the Penguin? Is he working with someone
else?

BATMAN
No, it's just him, but...

Angry man looks at Batman frustratingly.

BATMAN
He might not look tough but...He's pretty
scary when he... He is a dangerous criminal!

ANGRY MAN
Do you even have insurance on this thing?

Batman stands silently.

ANGRY MAN
That's it! I'm calling the cops.

BATMAN
Get down, it's the Joker!

The man quickly ducks down.

KRRPUFF

Batman drops a smoke pellet.

BRUVRIMM is heard as the Batmobile's engine starts up.

As the smoke clears, the man can only see the rear of Batman's car as it drives out of view.

ANGRY MAN
(yelling at the fleeing car)
Fuck you, Batman!

Accommodations Part IV

INT. BASEMENT

The bell hop drags Shayna up the stairs.

INT. HALLWAY

The door for room 122 opens. The bell hop and Shayna enter the hallway.

BELL HOP
Follow me and I will get us out of here.

They run through the halls as the bell hop guides her through the maze.

BELL HOP
I didn't want this to happen. I was in a
halfway house when he found me. I needed money
and I don't ask questions. I didn't sign up for
this though.

SHAYNA
Frankly, I don't care. Just get me out of here
and all is forgiven.

After spiraling through the halls, the bell hop comes to a stop in the middle of a long hallway with no doors.

He looks a the one light fixture attached to the wall beside him.

BELL HOP
This is it.
A corner of the red carpet was lifted directly under the light. The bell hop grabs the corner and pull back a square piece of carpet about 3*3 feet. Under the carpet, is just hardwood floor, as far as looks go.

The bell hop steps down on the edge of the square.

There is a CLICK. A hydraulic hinge slowly lifts the panel.

Shayna watches, as the hatch opens, to see what's inside.

Under neath, a ladder goes through a long, dark shaft. At the bottom is a bright light.

The bell hop jumps on the ladder and starts climbing down.

Shayna follows.

INT. SHAFT

We hear feet stepping down each rung of the ladder.

A THUMP as the bell hop reaches the bottom.

Shayna continues down until she finally reaches the light and to the bottom.

BELL HOP
What happened? This isn't right!

They are in an empty hotel room. Just green, bare walls and the blood red carpet.

The hatch above closes.

The lights go out.

The familiar HISS starts.

THUMP

THUMP

INT. LADDER ROOM - LATER

The lights turn on.

Shayna and the bell hop are passed out in the floor.

Shayna opens her eyes slowly

She sit her self up against a wall.

SHAYNA
Hey. Are you wake?... Hello?

The bell hop moves and groans.

He rubs his head.

SHAYNA
Why did you bring me down here?

BELL HOP
This should have been the exit. How did he make a
room here so fast?

SHAYNA
How do I know that you aren't part of this.

BELL HOP
In case you haven't noticed, I down here with you.

BEAT

BELL HOP
It hasn't always been like this. We started off by
grave robbing, selling the bones. No one was supposed
to get hurt. But, he wasn't satisfied. I thought it was
all about making money.

SHAYNA
So that's all you care about, the money.

BELL HOP
It's complicated.

SHAYNA
Yeah, you said you were homeless, but I don't
think that excuses what you have done.

BELL HOP
You're right. Perhaps, I deserve this. Maybe, that
is why I am here.

SHAYNA
Speak for yourself. Why am I here? I don't
deserve this.

BELL HOP
There is one thing all humans share.
We all deserve to die.

SHAYNA
That's morbid.
(pause)
What's your name?

BELL HOP
Henry.

SHAYNA
I am Shayna.

HENRY
I know. He had me look up everything about you.

SHAYNA
Well that's great. Like what?

HENRY
I know your an actress.

SHAYNA
We go by actor now. And, that was an obvious
one.

HENRY
I know you grew up in West Virginia, you were
top of your class all through school, you have
been trying to get into movies for the past two
years without much success, and you don't
handle loss very well. Or, at least that's what
I gather from your recent stint in the hospital, after
you had a bad review of your last play.

SHAYNA
Oh... I see.

Shayna looks down at her shackled hands.

Rubs her wrists.

SHAYNA
Dying isn't as dignified as movies would lead you
to believe. I want to look back and see the great
things I have done. Reminisce about the good memories
I've made. But, I can't. I just see my wasted time. Time
that is more valuable than I realized. After tonight,
what will I become?

Shayna becomes silent.

SHAYNA
Jesse Hornton.

HENRY
What does that mean?

SHAYNA
A boy I went to school with. He had one of those
things where the lip looks like it's being pulled
towards the nostril.

HENRY
A cleft palate?

SHAYNA
Yeah, I think so. But, my friends come over and
tell me, that he has a crush on me. They are
giggling and laughing at the fact that this
kid likes me, because he supposed to "beneath me" or
what ever vain thought we had. You know? Kids can
be cruel.

Shayna shamefully looks at the ground. Then, she looks back at Henry.

SHAYNA
But, to be honest I was still flattered.
It's still nice to be appreciated. So, at lunch that
day, I go sit with him. My friends, of course, thought
that it was hilarious. When I sit down, he smiles.

Shayna grins jovially.

SHAYNA
had never seen him smile before.... I couldn't stop my
immediate reaction and I cringed. I hoped he didn't
see it, but I could tell he did. He just keep smiling.

Her grin turns to melancholy on her face.

SHAYNA
I don't remember what we talked about, but we
never spoke again after that day. I would see him
around the school and he would grin as he passed.

Shayna starts to tear up.

SHAYNA
The more I think about it, I'll never see anything
as beautiful as his smile on that day.

CLAP

CLAP

CLAP

Henry, sitting in his corner, slowly claps and nods his head.

HENRY
That was beautiful. I couldn't have imagined this
going any better.

Shayna looks at Henry, angrily and confused.

SHAYNA
Going any better?

HENRY
Guys, That's a wrap!

The side wall farthest away from Shayna slides out. It is being pulled by two men wearing gaffer belts.

Once the wall has cleared the view, there are around 10 people outside. Three are wrapping up electrical cords, one is putting away a boom mic and other sound equipment.

There are about five standing in-front of a table with sandwiches and other snack foods on it. They clap as they are being revealed.

The "owner" is sitting in a fold-able chair drinking a cup of coffee.

Henry pulls a key out of his pocket and unlocks the shackles he is in.

He then walks over to Shayna, who looks bewildered, and frees her.

HENRY
We are going to be back here tomorrow at 9.
Can I count on you to be here?

Shayna stand silently.

HENRY
Since you haven't tried to kill me yet, I'll
take that as a yes.

Henry starts to walk away.

SHAYNA
What am I getting paid for this?

HENRY
I'll email your contract over tonight. See you
tomorrow.

SHAYNA
(perplexedly)
Okay, see ya.
